Two Muslim Women Not Permitted To Sit On Stage At Obama Rally
Mr. Obama’s campaign ruffled a few feathers Monday when two Muslim women wearing traditional headscarves were not permitted to sit behind Mr. Obama at a Detroit, Mich., rally. Obama volunteers wanted to keep their headscarves from appearing in photographs.
“This is of course not the policy of the campaign. It is offensive and counter to Obama’s commitment to bring Americans together and simply not the kind of campaign we run,” Obama spokesman Bill Burton told Politico. “We sincerely apologize for the behavior of these volunteers.”
The incident reflects an ongoing tension Mr. Obama has with the Muslim community, as he recently launched an Internet response team to prevent false messages, such as he is a Muslim, from taking root in mainstream America.
