A fresh ruling from the Haifa district court asserts the right (contra all of the U’s Takanonim) of a student to be represented by a professional lawyer in a University discipline proceedings (Vaadot Mishma’at).

The importance of this ruling lies beyond the specific university or the specific issue: it is that the Israeli judicial system has long crossed the ruikon of not treating academics as common mortals, or their institutions as subject to common law and public norms. This is manifested currently by a growingly intensive succession of rulings, and from different angles. The sooner the U’s themselves realize it the better for EVERYBODY!
